Sometimes, I wanted to smack some sense into these Clan men–how dare you treat someone like that! Some readers may find the depictions of woman to be disturbing and several character engaging in physical assaults on women.

Caverario is such an inspiration and strong woman. She was a woman, and she had more courage than you, Broud, more determination, more self-control. She is taken in by a clan of Neanderthals, less evolved than the cro-magnon, libdo raised to live by their methods.

She’s known nothing but the strictures of the Clan. So basically, she indicted herself right along with me. I just love her. All in all a fabulous read.

After being mauled by a cave lion, she is found by a group of Neanderthals and her life is saved. Thanks for the lovely discussions about unlovely things: Regardless, Jean Auel clearly researched the available material and provide and interesting look into prehistoric life. Throughout the series, you will see her growing more and more as she goes off to find “her own people”.

And the setting is so unique, the writing so vibrant, that I imagine most people will find themselves engaged. I might buy them for myself for my B-Day! View all 15 comments.

I think that dynamic is what made this book so riveting to me. It’s nice to be able to so firmly identify myself as being on a character’s side from the first few chapters in a book. He treated her really badly understatement but I let it go because I assumed he’d have to beg for her forgiveness hero-groveling is a weakness of mine. And the setting is so unique, the writing so vibrant, This was a fantastic book.

When did you see her go into the cave?

El Clan del Oso Cavernario by Jean M. Auel (5 star ratings)

Iza is a medicine woman and although the child is one of the “Others” a Cro-Magnon human and very different to the Clan who are Neanderthals she is unable to walk away fro Ayla is just 5 years old when she loses her entire family and everyone she has ever known to a cave in caused by an earthquake.

Ayla is without a doubt one of my favorite fictional characters, she suffers so much hardship but she never gives in and she always fights to survive. This is one of those rare books that leave me looking things up, poring over encyclopedias, scouring Wikipedia, anything for just a little more detail. Iza, the woman who found her is allowed to adopt her. Although Auel is an evolutionist, she recognizes Neanderthals as “a branch of humanity” and depicts them as fully human, not as the “ape-men” who figure in London’s Before Adam or Conan Doyle’s The Lost World –a point in her favor.

This is discussed on several occasions. Her reconstruction of both Cro-Magnon and Neanderthal natural history, society and culture is of course speculative; but it is based meticulously on this research.

El Clan del Oso Cavernario

I thought it would be more Fantasy fiction but since I’m not adverse to this genre I thought I’d give it a try. The descriptions are not graphic but some readers will be disturbed by the portrayal.

While I am sure this is more realistic than having Clan women burning their bras or whatever they would have used for brasit is not for everyone and was rather uncomfortable at times to listen to.

I liked the differences that she accented between Clan and Others: I’m giving it 5 stars. This series is like taking a step back in time and it feels like you have experienced everything that Ayla goes through right alongside her.

Tigress Warrior Elf Goodreads is not a site for reading books. There are 6 books in the series: Again, the depictions are not graphic. I read it several times afterwards, but I haven’t picked it up in years. I honestly cannot wait to start reading the next book.
